The Australian Government has announced the establishment of a new company, NBN Co, to build and operate a new super fast national broadband network in Australia.

It is anticipated that the new national broadband network will:

  • connect 90 per cent of all Australian homes, schools and workplaces with broadband services with speeds up to 100 megabits per second;
  • connect all other premises in Australia with next generation wireless and satellite technologies that will deliver broadband speeds up to 12 megabits per second;
  • be expected to be rolled-out, simultaneously, in metropolitan, regional, and rural areas; and
  • begin rollout in Tasmania and pilot rollout on mainland Australia from 2010.

 A panel of contractors has already been established to build the initial rollout of the NBN in Tasmania. A specific ICN portal has been established at www.nbn.icn.org.au to identify local companies that can assist with the initial Tasmanian build phase.

This portal is for companies that can provide specific capabilities and equipment in mainland Australia to register their interest in the project.

Please go to the appropriate registration location:

  • Software vendors, developers and integrators - Register Here
  • Services providers – Register here
  • Sellers or resellers of Australian/NZ made consumables, installation hardware or equipment – Register here

Construction services providers, please take care when specifying the regions of the country where you have the ability to provide experienced and capable on-the-ground resources. Note that if invited to bid for future project works you are likely to be asked for proof of capability in each region in the form of completed projects and local customer references.

At this stage only companies that can provide the specific capabilities listed on this portal should register for the project. NBN Co will progressively issue Requests for Capability Statement describing future project opportunities in more detail.
